As
a toddler, Will Jaxx was immersed in a colorful soundscape created by
phenomenal artists such as B.B. King, Earth, Wind & Fire, AL Green, and the
Modern Jazz Quartet. His musical ability began to quickly assert itself and by
age 12, the trombone was his preferred method of expression.
During
his formative years, Will Jaxx studied with several masters of the instrument
including: Mark McConnell (Atlanta Opera), Stephen Wilson (Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra), and Dr. Marvin A. Pryor (Cameo). This trifecta helped him develop
an exquisite technique and a uniquely captivating style, which later garnered
him the Louis Armstrong Award for Jazz and induction into Who's Who in
Music.
In
1998, Will Jaxx became Principal Trombonist with Rohi Productions in their
presentation of "King of Glory," an off-Broadway, Gospel stage play.
That tenure ended in 2008 when the play went on hiatus. After establishing
himself as a premier stage/theater musician and playing behind esteemed artists
such as Allen Tussaint, James Ingram, and Angie Stone, Mr. Jaxx decided that it
was time to step into the limelight and express his own creative vision.
His
debut offering, Dichotomy, presents a milestone in Urban Jazz/Chillout Music.
Soulful vocalise on trombone are perfectly matched with superb live musicians,
decadent vocals, and artful studio cuts to produce silky smooth tracks that
retain an urban sensibility. Audiences find themselves immersed in a sonic bath
of Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul, and NuJazz. The album’s won critical acclaim and even
helped Will Jaxx win the 2014-15 AHME Award as Hottest Jazz Musician. So, if
you like music with hip, head-bobbing flava, then make sure to check out the sounds
crafted by this “Dope Trombone Boi”. Add Dichotomy to your playlist today and
experience for yourself the sound and the swagger that is… Will Jaxx!
